First Baptist — The Rev. Dan Cash will deliver the message, “Making a Choice,” with Scripture from Joshua 24:1-15, at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus. The service will be streamed live at fbccolumbus.org/WP/sermons. Professional child care will be available on the lower level.

Sunday School classes will begin at 10:45 a.m. Children ages 4 through third grade may leave the service for Children’s Worship. The Adult Study Fellowship, beginning at 10:45 a.m., will study “God is Always Working,” from Genesis 11:10, 27, 31-32, and 12:1-4. All are invited to share this study and fellowship opportunity.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at noon Tuesday.

The Men of Faith will meet at 6:15 a.m. Friday at Four Seasons Retirement Center, 1901 Taylor Road, for breakfast and Bible Study. All men are welcome.

First Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 512 Seventh St., Columbus. The sermon title is “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” based on Joshua 24:1-15.

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in the community in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. traditional service and the 11 a.m. celebration service, the Rev. Lisa Cottingham will deliver the message, “Forsaken and Alone,” at the church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. The scripture will be Psalm 22:1-15. Sunday school for all ages begins at 10:10 a.m.

Childcare is available during both services.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The Amplify non-traditional service is at 9 a.m. Sunday and Sunday School classes are at 10 a.m. The Well traditional service is at 11 a.m. Both Amplify and The Well are held in the main sanctuary, led by Pastor Wes Jones. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. Sunday School classes meet in their regular rooms at the church, located at 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus.

Adult choir practice is at 5 p.m. followed by the Sunday evening service at 6 p.m.

“In The Beginning…,” a small-group Bible study, meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays in The Friendship Center. It is studying the book of Genesis.

Wednesday activities begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by GLOW at 6:15 p.m. The Prayer Team will meet at 6:15 p.m. in The Prayer Room. Youth meets at 6:30 p.m. and Adult Bible study will meet at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Grace Lutheran — A guest pastor, the Rev. Tom Going, will bring the message, “From Sadness to Joy.” Worship is at 8 and 10:30 a.m., with Sunday School for all ages at 9:25 a.m.

ALPHA Class continues Tuesday on the topic, “How Does God Guide Us?” and the Searching Scripture class will continue with a study of the Ten Commandments. A light supper will be served at 6 p.m. Child care will be available.

Mt. Olive United Methodist — There will be a homecoming Saturday, when pastor John Tingle will speak at the 9 a.m. worship service. A pitch-in dinner will be shared at noon. The afternoon program will begin at 1:30 p.m. The gospel group, Heartfelt, will have special music. Former pastor Denny White will speak during the afternoon program.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday’s 10 a.m. sermon, “We Want It Our Way,” marks the 201st Sunday after Pentecost with text from Amos 5:6-7, 10-15; Hebrews 4:12-16; and Mark 10:17-31.

Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study will resume at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Petersville United Methodist — A guest speaker, the Rev. Jane Noblitt, will present the Sunday message at 9 a.m., and Teresa Covert will lead the children’s time.

The adult choir will be sharing special music.

A time of fellowship will follow the worship service at 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus.

Larry and Connie Nolting will host the Baker’s Dozen Monday night Bible study and Chris Kimerling will host the Journey group, both meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday. New members are welcome at either of the classes.

The Sit and Stitch group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the Nolting home. Choir practice will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

St. Paul Lutheran — Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will be celebrated during the 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday, when the theme for Pastor Doug Bauman’s sermon will be “What Are You Seeking?” based on Amos 5:6-7, 10-15.

A special offering will be received to support world missions, and an all-women’s choir will sing.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will be receiving orders for honey to support the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch in Minot, North Dakota.

The Spanish worship service will be held in the chapel at 10:45 a.m.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The service is at 10 a.m. Sunday. Jimmy Collins shares his experiences as chaplain at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana to learn more about how the congregation can be fully present to themselves and loved ones. His reading is “Being Fully Present.”

Westside Community — Pastor Robert Vester will lead the service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, on the corner of State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard. The children’s program for birth through sixth grade meets at 10 a.m.

The Ruby Tuesday Women’s Bible Study has begun a new study, “The Joy of Encouragement,” by David Jeremiah. This group meets from 10 to 11:15 a.m. each Tuesday at the church.

There is a Men’s and Women’s 7-week Bible Study that meets from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Men’s study will be “The Armor of God” and the Women’s study will be “Gideon: Your Weakness. God’s Strength” by Priscilla Shirer.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The first Discipleship Training Program class begins at 9:30 a.m. today. The class will be in the Friendship Center. This class is a New Testament elective on “Philippians” and will be taught by the Rev. Glenn Black. The class will last 6 weeks, ending Dec. 1. The cost is $25. Registration forms are on the church website.

First United Methodist education forum — The church, at 618 Eighth St. in Columbus, will continue its education forum at 10:10 a.m. in Fellowship Hall this Sunday and on Oct. 21 and 28. Open to the public, the sessions will continue the documentary “Rise Above the Mark” about the issues and challenges facing Indiana’s public schools. Testing, finances, charter schools, vouchers, and the role of Legislature are among the issues affecting local schools.

Old Union United Church of Christ — The first annual Soup and Sides dinner will be held Friday. Four homemade soups with side dishes and desserts will be served from 6 to 8 p.m.

Petersville United Methodist — Noodle-making has begun in preparation for the annual turkey supper the first weekend in November. Each Thursday at 9 a.m., women and men are invited to help make the noodles.

Westside Community — The third Westside Fall Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 20. It includes grilling, games and prizes for kids of all ages. Everyone is invited to attend.

White Creek United Methodist — The 17th annual hog roast is from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20. The dinner will include pulled pork, BBQ or plain, baked beans, slaw, applesauce, chips, drink and a choice of dessert. Carryout meals will be available. Cost will be whatever the customer wants to pay. There will also be handmade crafts, baked goods and church cookbooks available for purchase.

First United Methodist — The church will present a concert Friday featuring Arkady Orlovsky on cello and Tamara Orlovsky on piano. This free concert begins at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary; doors open at 6:30 p.m.
