Three Flames teams win Rock and Roll titles

Five Columbus Flames teams competed in the Rock and Roll Tourney in Cleveland last weekend, and all five teams made the Championship game, with three winning their divisions and two finishing runner-up by one goal.

Bantams net championship

The Columbus Flames Bantams overcame a rough start to the season due to restructuring and development efforts to win the championship. They overcame a 5-1 deficit to beat Bloomington (Illinois) Thunder 8-6 and fell to the Altoona (Pennsylvania) Trackers 3-0 before bouncing back to beat the Troy (Ohio) Bruins 6-1, taking them to the finals, where they beat the Altoona Trackers 3-0.

For the weekend, Alex Clark netted four goals and three assists; Jack Warble scored three goals; Barrett Mudd, Caleb McGhehey and Will Kushner all added two goals and one assist; JW Roberts, Nicholas Goggins and Tristan Tyner all had one goal and one assist; Dane Weinzapfel scored one goal; Nate Balasia had two assists and Samuel McGhehey and Cole Vreeland each added one assist. Goaltender Ben Blanz was in net all weekend and brought home the MVP plaque from the championship game.

Peewee team takes title

Peewee Flames A beat the Cheektowaga Warriors AA 3-2, the Toledo Cherokees 4-1 and the Glen Ellyn Admirals 4-1, then played the Toledo Cherokees again in the title game and won 2-0. Wyatt Warner netted three goals and one assist, Vaughn Moenssen scored three goals, Westin Davis and Sawyer Patterson each added two goals, Hayden Johnson had one goal and two assists, Eduardo Aranda-Michel and Will Jamerson each scored one goal and Drew Weed and Leif Nelson each had one assist. Jackson Wheatley was in net with a save percentage of 95.79.

Peewee B team wins

Peewee Flames B beat North Pittsburgh Wildcats 10-4, the Livingston Blues 6-1 and the Altoona Trackers 7-1 before beating the North Pittsburgh Wildcats 3-2 in the championship game. Vaughn Moenssen netted eight goals and three assists, Sawyer Patterson had six goals and five assists, River Degner added six goals and two assists, Cole Finney scored two goals, Philip Mattern netted one goal and three assists, Ashton Nguyen and Jonah Young each had one goal and two assists, John Warble added one goal and one assist and Blake Avery and Lane Barringer each had one assist. Lane Barringer was in net with a save percentage of 88.0.

Squirt Orange is runner-up

Squirt Flames Orange beat the Cleveland Barons Minor AA 4-2 and Wheatfield Blades Minor AA 6-2, fell to the Monroe County Eagles Minor AA 6-4, beat the South Hill Panthers No. 331 A 6-3 and fell to the Monroe County Eagles Minor AA 3-2 in the championship to bring home Reserve Champion. Ryan McGhehey netted six goals and two assists, Drew Moenssen had five goals and two assists, Ayden Richardson scored four goals, Tsukasa Udo added two goals, Brooks Larsh and Cooper Ross each had one goal and two assists, Jackson Schneider and Henry Schloemer each netted one goal and one assist, John Tuttle scored one goal, Carter Kareus had two assists and Grace Wallace added one assist. Hudson Beckom was in net three games, and Canyon Long was in net two games.

Squirt Blue takes second

Squirt Flames Blue beat the Eastside Bulldogs and won 12-3, fell to the the Belle Tire Warriors 7-4, beat the Bloomington Thunder 7-6, then fell 5-4 to the Belle Tire Warriors in the championship game to bring home reserve champion. Larsh netted 10 goals and four assists; Aaron Warble added four goals and three assists; Moenssen had three goals and three assists; Tom King notched two goals and five assists; Bryson Moore and Rowan Correll each added two goals and two assists; Ryan McGhehey had one goal and two assists; Zane Lynch, Preston Bell and Uriah Oliphant all netted one goal and one assist; Gabriel Marsh had 3 assists; Wallace added two assists and Jonah Broderick, Colby Payne and Kareus all notched one assist. Long played in net with a save percentage of 77.89.

Mites teams compete

The Columbus Mites had two teams compete this weekend in separate events, one in Columbus and one in Bloomington.

Columbus 1 went 5-2-1 throughout the two events with wins against Indy 7-1 and 2-1, Owensboro 2-1, Evansville 5-1, Bloomington 6-0, a 1-1 tie against Indy and losses against Louisville (3-2) and Northern Kentucky (4-0). Bentley Hampton, Carter Harris, Jack Sargent, Keaton Grube, Logan Barringer, Lukas Jozsa, Maddox Coy and Robby Orgass all had goals or assists. Cayden Long played in goal, recording a shutout.

Columbus 2 went 3-2-2 througuout the two events with wins against Northern Kentucky 1-0, Evansville 3-0 and Bloomington 14-2, along with ties against Louisville (4-4) and Northern Kentucky (0-0) and losses against Owensboro (3-2) and Danville (7-3). Avery Orgass, Brody Brubaker, Chance Mathis, Clare Neff, Colton Pepmeier, Eli Dykstra, Hiromu Udo, Luis Taqueushi, Luke Getchell, Nolan Sparkman and Trent Boone all recorded goals or assists. Knox Coen played goalie and had three shutouts

BROOMBALL

Monsters stay on top

Monsters of Rock (9-1) remained on top of the Columbus Broomball League standings with a 2-0 win against Hansons (2-7-1). Kyle Roshak scored both goals.

Vagabonds edged CCA 2-1. Greg Thomas and Andy Nagus netted goals for Vagabonds (7-2). Max Warr had the goal for CCA (5-5).

Toyota Tsunamis topped Our Name Is Earl 4-1. Matt Street scored three goals, and Clayton McNealy added one for Tsunamis (5-4-1). Ellie Lutz had the goal for Earl (3-5-2).

Jennings County BC (1-8) had a bye.

BASKETBALL

Jennings, Austin split

The Jennings County eighth-grade Blue team edged Austin 52-49 on Thursday.

Dylan Harrison led the Panthers (8-4) with 15 points. Sam Fewell scored 14, and Jack George added 10.

The Jennings seventh-grade Blue squad fell to Austin 43-23. Brock Maschino led the Panthers (3-9) with six points.
