SEYMOUR — Four Marion County residents, including two teenagers, have been arrested after an attempted armed robbery at Seymour’s AT&T Store late Monday night.

Steven Reed and Jamarvyan Brewer, both 19, of Indianapolis, were arrested Monday on charges of attempted armed robbery, a Level 3 felony, with the assistance of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

Two 16 year old juveniles, of Indianapolis, were also arrested and charged.

According to a media release from Seymour Police Department officer C.J. Foster, witness statements said three of the individuals entered the store, located at 1510 E. Tipton St. They displayed a handgun before ordering a store employee and customer to the back of the store. The customer did not cooperate, instead chasing the three individuals out of the store, where they entered a silver Chevy Malibu and fled the scene, Foster said.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department was notified at 7:52 p.m. Monday about the attempted armed robbery in Seymour and was given a description of the silver vehicle. Sgt. Andrew Whipker was approaching south U.S. 31 and East County Road 600S. when he saw a silver Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound.

When the vehicle pulled into a gas station, Whipker observed the occupants, who appeared to match the descriptions of the suspects and was able to match some of the articles in the silver vehicle with items from the robbery, deputies said. Whipker detained Reed, Brewer and the two juveniles, deputies said.

They were transported to the Seymour Police Station, where Reed and Brewer declined to be interviewed by police. Based on video and physical evidence collected from the store and scene of the arrest, all four individuals were transported to the Jackson County Jail, where Brewer and Reed will remain. The juveniles were taken to a separate facility.

An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.

Seymour police were assisted by officers with Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Columbus Police Department and Indiana State Police.
