The Columbus Indiana Philharmonic presents the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra for an outdoor concert live on the library plaza. This unique concert features David Hartung and Donata Cucinotta’s musical melting pot of parodies, folk, jazz, pop, musical theater, rock, and opera. Neighbors David and Donata began “Cul-de-sac Concerts” to entertain their neighborhood in Seymour during the lockdown. On Sept. 30, they bring their genre-busting show to Columbus. WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO? The Where Does Your Money Go? Free online program will guide participants through the creation of their spending and savings plan and provide practical resources for them to use in their own lives. The six-module course includes videos, interactive activities, self-assessments and downloadable spending tracking forms. The program is self-paced and can be completed at the viewer’s convenience. Participants should allow approximately four to six weeks to complete the modules and associated activities. After completion of the course, participants will understand how current money management practices affect financial security, how to establish good financial management practices and new habits that create personal financial security. Best practices that will be explored and discussed include identifying spending leaks, categorizing needs vs. wants, tracking expenses and establishing written financial goals. Sports, exercise, wellness
RELAY FOR LIFE OF COLUMBUS, all day, Sept. 7-12, online. In keeping with the guidelines from the CDC, the American Cancer Society is taking the Relay for Life of Columbus virtual. The Relay for Life event leadership team is working with ACS to put together a week full of activities through Facebook. All updates will be sent out via email and on Relay For Life of Columbus’ Facebook page.
2020 DISCOVER COLUMBUS PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sept. 19, Donner Park, 22nd St., Columbus. This non-sanctioned, outdoor tournament is a fundraiser to help grow the sport of pickleball in Columbus, with proceeds going towards the expansion of pickleball courts at Donner Park. On Sept. 18, beginning at noon, there will be open play at the Donner Park Burnett Tennis Courts and shelter house. Pick up a participant bag and tournament shirt, try out the taped pickleball courts, meet fellow competitors, and socialize. Organizers ask that attendees wear masks when unable to socially distance 6 feet. Entry fee is $35 plus $5 per event. Skill levels include 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5/5.0. There will be men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. ADULT BEGINNER PICKLEBALL CLINIC, 12 to 1:30 p.m., Sept. 21-23, Donner Park Pickleball courts, Sycamore and 17th Streets, Columbus. Pre-registration is required. Limit eight participants and no drop-ins due to limited number of courts and COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. The cost is $45 per person. The three-day clinic, for those 18 and up, will introduce the fundamentals of the game. Organizers ask attendees wear masks when not able to social distance at least 6 feet. Participants must attend each lesson since each subsequent day will build upon the previous day’s beginner lesson. You will be able to play games each session with coaching on each court. The “Balthazar Korab: Photographer of Architecture” exhibit continues in Gallery 506, black and white historic photos of iconic Columbus architecture. “Avenue of the Architects,” an exhibition by Ball State students in architecture and historic preservation began July 1. During September, Hoosier Artist Gallery is featuring the art of painter Carina Larsson and ceramicist Della Wood. Larsson, who is from Sweden, paints engaging portraits of horses, woodland animals, and humans with soft abstract backgrounds in acrylics or oils and cold wax.
