COLUMBUS, Ind. — Officers from the Columbus Police Department SWAT Team with the assistance of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Violent Crimes Unit, the Indiana Department of Corrections and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted man on a weapons violation parole warrant in rural Bartholomew County on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., law enforcement officers from the Columbus Police Department SWAT Team, which is comprised of officers from CPD as well as the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, arrived at a residence in the 12800 block of West County Road 525S to serve an Indiana Parole Warrant, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The SWAT officers observed the wanted man, Jimmy D. Jones, 46, outside of the residence where he was taken into custody without incident.

Jones was on parole for weapons charges and attempted murder for the 1993 shooting of an Indianapolis Police Department officer. At the conclusion of the warrant service, Jones was turned over to the custody of the Indiana Department of Corrections, Harris said.
