COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County’s DeWayne Hines has been unanimously elected as the new Indiana Sixth Congressional District’s Republican Party Vice Chairman. It’s a move up from the position of treasurer that Hines held within the Sixth District last year.

“DeWayne will continue to do a great job of championing our Republican values in this new role,” said Bartholomew County Republican Chairwoman Luann Welmer.

During the district’s reorganizational meeting in Shelbyville March 13, Bartholomew County Republican Vice-Chair Josh Burnett seconded the nomination for Hines. “DeWayne has faithfully served our local party for over 30 years, and has shown a particular passion for advancing the Republican agenda at the state level,” Burnett said.

His past experience includes helping to coordinate statewide campaigns for former Vice President Mike Pence, former Congressman Luke Messer, Rep. Greg Pence, R-Columbus and former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels.

On the local level, the Rockcreek Township resident has served as Bartholomew County’s GOP vice-chairman for eight years under recently-retired chairwoman Barb Hackman, as well as four years as secretary under Hackman’s predecessor, the late Ted Ogle.

Hines currently works as a residential property assessment coordinator for Bartholomew County Assessor Ginny Whipple. His wife is county Recorder Tami Hines, who served two terms as county Clerk from 2007-2014.

During the meeting in Shelbyville, the Republicans chose Misty Hollis as district chairman. The Richmond City Council member is a former vice-chairwoman for the Indiana Republican Party, and once chaired the Wayne County Republican Party.

Indiana’s Sixth Congressional district represents over 720,000 Hoosiers in Bartholomew, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hancock, Henry, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Randolph, Ripley, Rush, Shelby, Switzerland, Union and Wayne counties, as well as a portion of Scott County.
