Chamber to highlight small business

The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce will join a national celebration of small businesses in events next week.

From Sunday through May 8, the celebration highlights the important role small businesses play in creating jobs and wealth in the United States.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, employing nearly half of all workers,” said Cindy Frey, president of the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce. “It’s important that we both recognize and financially support our local small business community. When we do, we invest in the future of our community.”

According to the Small Business Association, the U.S. has more than 31 small businesses which employ nearly 61 million workers — half the private sector workforce. Small businesses account for 99.9 percent of all U.S. businesses. In Bartholomew County, there are 3,304 small businesses, according to Frey.

The chamber will host a series of events during National Small Business Week. They include:

Tuesday: Think Local — Creating and Enhancing Your Online Store: Learn how to ensure customers have the best online shopping experience

Wednesday: Marketing Your Services/Products to Local, State and Federal Government: Learn how to speak the language of government procurement

Also Wednesday: Pitch Strong with Startup Studio: Learn how to pitch to investors.

Thursday: Ribbon Cutting at Hog Molly Brewing

Friday, May 7: Founder’s Friday: Casual, caffeinated conversations to help build a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem in Columbus. This will feature Ninebx founder Manish Goel, who recently completed a gBETA experience.
