Prep sports notebook: North gymnasts, Panther hoops star named All-State; Olympian headed to IUC

Columbus North junior Reese Euler and sophomore Hannah Perry have been named to the All-State gymnastics team by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.

Euler placed third on the vault and floor, fourth on the beam and bars and third in the all-around in the state finals. Perry tied for ninth on the floor, tied for 15th on the vault, tied for 23rd on the bars and finished 28th on the beam on her way to a 19th-place all-around finish.

The Bull Dogs finished fourth as a team in the state meet on March 9.

Panthers junior named All-State

Jennings County junior Carter Kent has been named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Franciscan Health Underclass Large School All-State team in boys basketball.

South Decatur’s Jacob Scruggs was selected Senior Honorable Mention. Edinburgh junior Connor Ramey was named Underclass Honorable Mention.

East’s Fischvogt commits to IUC

Columbus East senior Jackson Fischvogt has committed to play for the first basketball team at IU Columbus.

Fishvogt led the Olympians with 11 points a game this season. He will join a Crimson Pride squad that will debut this fall and play their home games at Nexus Park Fieldhouse.

North-East girls tennis is Thursday

Normally, the annual Columbus North-Columbus East girls tennis match is played on the second Monday in April.

However, with the total solar eclipse happening on April 8, the match will now be played on Thursday.

Due to the total solar eclipse that is supposed to move through south central Indiana in the afternoon on April 8, there are no games or matches scheduled in The Republic area.

North boys golf to host Brownstown

Columbus North’s boys golf match that originally was scheduled to be played on Tuesday at Brownstown Central now will be a home match.

The match will begin around 5 p.m. at Harrison Lake Country Club.
