Beverly L. Nicholson

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Beverly Jane (Lewis) Nicholson passed away on March 30, 2024 at the age of 90 in Columbus, Indiana. She was born on May 5, 1933 in Logansport, Indiana to parents Ralph and Dorothy Lewis. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard (Dick) P. Nicholson who passed away in 2014. She is survived by her sister, Betty Ann Foxworthy and her two sons: Richard L. Nicholson of Indianapolis, and Gregory P. Nicholson of Chicago; her daughter-in-law, Margaret Nicholson and her four grandchildren: Benjamin 31, Madeleine 30, Samuel 28, and Isabel 26 all of Chicago.

She married her high school sweetheart Dick Nicholson in August 1955. They attended Shortridge high school in Indianapolis, and then DePauw University together. She was a member of Phi Beta Phi sorority. Many years later she was a driving force behind the renovation of the sorority house at DePauw University.

She lived in Texas, Florida, and Georgia in the early days of marriage as Dick was in the Air Force. They settled in Columbus, Indiana where Dick worked for Cummins Diesel Engine company. As she raised their young family they moved to Seattle and back to Columbus and then to New Jersey, as Dick was transferred with the business. Eventually they came back to Columbus to stay in 1975. Bev was an education major and this was very important to her in her life. She volunteered, and then made a career at the Columbus Public Library as the reference librarian. She also helped at the Columbus Visitors Center when needed. She cared for Dick as he battled Alzheimer’s disease in the last years of his life.

In keeping with Beverly’s wishes, cremation was planned with private inurnment in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Zaharako’s Restaurant 329 Washington Street Columbus, IN.
