COLUMBUS, INDIANA
Sylvia Ruth “Sali” Dorn, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at her home at the age of 82.
Sali was born in Willmar, Minnesota, May 15, 1941, the youngest child born to Edward John
Johnson II and Vivian C. Warren Johnson. On April 20, 1960, Sali married Gary H. Dorn; he survives.
Sali served the health care community as a licensed practical nurse at the Bartholomew County Hospital, Columbus Regional Hospital and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
For 23 years, Sali was a member and sang in the choir at Faith Lutheran Church. She was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus where she was a member of the choir. Earlier in life, Sali was a hunter and she will be remembered as an accomplished painter, musician and flower gardener.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 64 years, Gary; children, Pastor Mark (Jamie) Dorn of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, James (Emelie) Dorn of New Whiteland and Sarah Dorn of Columbus; grandchildren, David (Megan), Chris (Erica), Amanda, Dakota (Tanya), Ben, Susie, Aaron, Luke and Sophia; and, great-grandchildren, Trentin, Kaitlyn, Aubrey, Melody, Aiden, Alexis, Waylon, Wesley, Ryker, Jaycen, Attalie and Reagan.
Sali was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Aana C. Dorn and brothers, Edward John Johnson III and Warren Johnson.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus; the Reverend Mark Teike and Pastor Mark Dorn will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Cremation will take place following the funeral service. Private inurnment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
