College sports notebook: Wilson clinches win for Purdue at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON — Ashlie Wilson gave Purdue its clinching point with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Magda Swierczynska at No. 6 singles Friday in a 4-1 Big Ten win at Indiana to close the regular season.

Wilson, a sophomore from Columbus North, and Juana Larranage dropped their No. 1 doubles match to Elisabeth Dunac and Nicole Teodosescu 6-3.

The Boilermakers (12-9) will play Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament Thursday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

VanDeventer ties for fifth in Huntington title

ANGOLA — Luke VanDeventer tied for fifth place out of 76 golfers Tuesday to help Huntington to the team title at Trine’s AC Eddy Invitational.

VanDeventer, a junior from Columbus North, carded a 2-over-par 73 at Zollner Golf Course.

The Foresters will compete in the Crossroads League Championships May 6-7 in Laconia.

Davis ties for 13th in DePauw Spring Clash

NOBLESVILLE — Willy Davis tied for 13th place Sunday to help DePauw to a runner-up finish in the DePauw Spring Clash.

Davis, a freshman from Columbus North, shot rounds of 73 and 71 at Pebble Brook Golf Course.

The Tigers will compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships Friday through Sunday at Westfield Center, Ohio.

Rutan hits, pitches Colonels to wins

Maddi Rutan threw a five-hitter and went 2 for 3 at the plate Tuesday to lead Eastern Kentucky to a 6-3 win against Louisville.

On Friday, Rutan allowed one run and four hits over the final six innings to pick up the win in relief in a 7-6 ASUN Conference win against Bellarmine. She went 1 for 3 with an RBI at the plate.

Rutan, a freshman from Columbus North, allowed only two hits over five shutout innings of relief on Sunday to improve her pitching record to 21-2 in an 8-0 win against Bellarmine. She also had an RBI at the plate.

The Colonels (36-5, 17-1) visit Miami (Ohio) for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Foster collects hits in Orange defeat

PITTSBURGH — Kenzie Foster went 2 for 2 with a run scored Sunday in Syracuse’s 7-5 ACC loss at Pittsburgh.

Norman helps Marian to victories

Sierra Norman went 1 for 3 with an RBI in Marian’s 13-3 first-game win and 2 for 3 in a 10-7 second-game win in a Crossroads League doubleheader at Bethel on Tuesday.

Greenwell homers at Milwaukee

Julian Greenwell went 2 for 6 with an RBI and a run scored Tuesday in Wright State’s 14-13 loss at Ohio State.

TRENTON, N.J. — Alec Burnett picked up his fifth save of the season Saturday in Wagner’s 8-7 Northeast Conference win against LeMoyne.

Bumbalough hits, pitches for Marian Ancilla

PLYMOUTH — Tyler Bumbalough went 2 for 3 with a run scored and made his season pitching debut Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader, allowing one earned run on three hits and striking out two in two innings in Marian Ancilla’s 12-9 loss to Lake Michigan.
