A missing Indiana State Police badge and identification was returned after it, along with the trooper’s wallet, had fallen off the roof of the officer’s car in Columbus.

1999

Students throughout Bartholomew County learned Earth-friendly lessons to celebrate Earth Day. Along with discussions about recycling, students from Schmitt Elementary School released more than 200 butterflies they raised from caterpillars.

1974

Introduction of the “original” Little Orphan Annie comic strip and relocation of two regular features took place in The Republic. Little Orphan Annie, one of the most popular comic strips in the history of cartoons, was reissued by the Chicago Tribune-New York News syndicate and was set to appear regularly on the comic page of The Republic.
