SHELBYVILLE — South Decatur pounded out 17 hits Monday in a 14-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference baseball win at Southwestern (Shelby).
Corey Nugent went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, and JP Scudder went 2 for 4 with four RBIs for the Cougars (5-2, 1-0). Grady Scudderwent 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Brady Lane went 2 for 4 with a double, Colby Rathburn and Toby Bishop each went 2 for 4 and Devin Pate went 2 for 5.
Pate and Nugent combined on a five-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and no walks.
