Body of second kayaker recovered after accident on the White River in Indianapolis near low-head dam

INDIANAPOLIS — The body of a second kayaker was recovered by Indiana Conservation officers on Monday. The body of Marcus Robinson, 30, of Indianapolis, was recovered from the White River near the 10th Street Bridge at 6 p.m. yesterday.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Conservation officers have recovered the body of one of two kayakers who went missing in the White River at the remnants of a low-head dam near the 2000 block of North White River Parkway Drive West April 17.

Conservation officers said the body of Solomon Shirley, 22, of Indianapolis, was recovered from the White River just south of the Michigan Street bridge in Indianapolis at 9:30 a.m. today.

The search efforts are ongoing for Marcus Robinson, 30, Indianapolis, who went missing with Shirley while kayaking on the river.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. April 17, Robinson and Shirley were kayaking when both men were ejected into the water when traveling over the low-head dam. A witness observed both men being ejected into the water.

Agencies assisting in the search include the Indianapolis Fire Department, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Pike Township Fire Department, and Indiana State Police.
