More than 1,000 cyclists from six states rolled through streets and down country roads in Bartholomew County for the annual Hope Ride, raising more than $10,000 that benefited Hope Food Bank and other community organizations.

Although the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department did not have the manpower to assign a deputy full time to the courthouse, one was stationed in Superior Court I on Mondays, criminal court day, for added security after two defendants bolted upon hearing their sentences.

Sixty-seven building permits carrying an estimated construction cost of $510,125 were issued by the county plan commission in August. Thirty-six of them were for new homes costing $465,000.
