Columbus Police arrested a local woman on multiple charges including possession of heroin after a traffic stop.
Brea D. Shipley, 36, of Columbus, was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Sunday on preliminary charges of possession of heroin, giving a false identity statement, false informing and two Bartholomew County warrants, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police spokesman.
Officer Ivan Shultz had stopped a vehicle near Indiana and Mapleton avenues for having an expired license plate, Harris said. During the traffic stop, Shultz spoke with a passenger in the vehicle who said she did not have an identification card but did provide a name, Harris said. When Shultz checked records on that name, the identification photo did not match Shipley, Harris said.
After identifying Shipley, officers then found heroin in one of her pants pockets, Harris said.
Shipley is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $21,500 bond, jail officials said.
