Semi accident caused by owl

A large owl hit a side window of a semitrailer early Monday, causing the driver to lose control and the semi to tip over in a ditch.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to County Road 850S at about 4:15 a.m. about a semi on its side in a ditch.

Deputy Brent Worman talked with the semi driver, Patrick Molex, 22, Ford Heights, Illinois, who said he was driving east on 850S when a large owl hit the driver’s side window, which was partially open.

Molex lost control of the semi, which went off the north side of the road, striking a culvert and rolling on to its left side, deputies said. Molex was not injured.

The owl was found dead on the floor board of the semi, deputies said.
