LOOGOOTEE — The hopes of Trinity Lutheran’s volleyball team to bring home the title from the Loogootee Class A Regional came to an end Saturday afternoon when Barr-Reeve won 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-10 to gain revenge for a regular-season loss.
Trinity coach Chelsea Stroub said she was pleased with the way her team came out attacking to win the first set.
The first set was tied at 7-7 when the Cougars scored six straight points, with Abby Schult leading the rally with two kills and a tip for three points during that time. Set point came as a result of a net violation by the Vikings.
The second set was tied at 21-21 before Barr-Reeve scored the final four points and carried that momentum over to the final two sets.
Barr-Reeve held a 10-6 lead in the third set before Trinity (21-14) rallied to take a 13-11 advantage. The Vikings charged back for a 16-15 lead. After a kill by Bailey Reynolds tied the score at 16, the Vikings went on a 9-3 run to close out the set.
The fourth set was tied at 19-19 before the Vikings finished strong to advance to the title match.
Hackman and Sabotin both had seven kills for the Cougars, and Sabotin topped the team in serving with three aces and in blocks with five. Ashley Goecker was the leader in digs with 28.
