Columbus has approved the condemnation of a home on Wilson Street.
The Columbus Board of Works on Tuesday approved a recommendation from city code enforcement officer Fred Barnett to condemn the property at 801 Wilson St. owned by William and Barbara Combest.
However, the city has given the Combests 120 days to bring the property up to code, said Mary Ferdon, executive director of administration and community development.
Issues cited by Barnett include the structure on the porch that was found to be failing, missing drywall in the kitchen, an inaccessible hot water heater, among others, according to a building compliance report provided by the city.
Ferdon also said if the property isn’t brought up to code within the designated timeframe, the Columbus Board of Works could be asked to approve a demolition order that would require the property owner to pick up costs tied to demolition.
