Sophomore Ella Wilks fired an even-par 36 to earn medalist honors and lead the sixth-ranked Columbus North girls golfers to a 153-184 victory over Perry Meridian during Monday’s dual meet at Harrison Lake Country Club.

Wilks had three birdies on her way to the personal-best round.

“I usually have some rough holes and very odd shots, but today, I really pulled through,” Wilks said. “I had a lot of good chips, definitely, that helped me out a lot.”

North coach Scott Seavers was pleased to see Wilks put up a solid score.

“Ella played her heart out today,” Seavers said. “She made a pretty long birdie putt to make even-par today. It’s a personal best, and I’m really happy for her.

Seavers believes the Bull Dogs team score could be one of their best ever in a home opener.

“I’m very happy with a 153, especially after a tough, emotional, draining weekend at the Fall Preview (at Prairie View),” Seavers said. “Coming back from that is really good, and I’m really happy.”

North’s Annie Anderson shot 37. Nathaly Munnicha had a 38. Yestika Nischol added a 42, Macy Euler scored a 43 and Gwen Anderson had a 45. Ritisha Rashmil added a 62, and Nathalie Cross had a 67.

Annie Anderson said it was nice to bounce back from her score of 99 that she shot on Saturday at Prairie View.

“On Sunday, I spent a lot of time on the range with my dad (Chris), and we really pulled it together,” Annie Anderson said. “My confidence is something that I’m working on while I’m playing and being aggressive, and I think I did that today. As long as I’m improving, I’m happy, and I think the team played well too, which is great.”

Having low rounds this early on in the season should help the Bull Dogs in the latter portion of the season in hopes of earning another state finals berth.

“I’m really happy that Annie Anderson bounced back after a tough round on Saturday. She’s shown some really good leadership and toughness to come back today and post a 1-over par, which is good,” Seavers said. “We always count on Nathaly to post a good score every time, and she does and is as solid as they come. She is one of the top golfers in the state. I’m really happy with our 4, 5 and 6 golfers and all the way down. We’ve posted scores there they we would normally use. We’re all playing well.”
