COLUMBUS — The Columbus Police Department welcomed its newest officer, Jackson Shepherd, after he was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop at the Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety meeting on Tuesday.

Officer Shepherd, 21, is a graduate of Jennings County High School and later attended Franklin College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice. Shepherd previously worked as a corrections officer for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.

Shepherd will undergo approximately four weeks of training at the Columbus Police Department before attending the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in January.
