Howard Dallas McVey, 92, of Avon Park, FL, formerly of Columbus, IN passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at home in Avon Park, FL. He was born October 21, 1927, in Shelbyville, IN to Samuel and Florence McVey.

Howard graduated from Shelbyville High School. He served in the United States Navy from September 1945 until October 1948 and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal.

He married Rosamond “Rosy” Joan Henry on December 23, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, IN.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus, IN and in Sebring, FL. He enjoyed dancing for 70 years with “the love of his life” Rosy. He and Rosy loved to travel and his passion was playing golf. He was founder and owner of Maintenance Electrical Repair Company, Inc. and Security Systems Specialists in Columbus, IN. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and the IBEW Local 481.

Survivors include his children Stephen Michael McVey (Cathy of Oxford, OH), Julianne Bowling (Conrad) of Avon Park, FL, Ted William McVey (Debora) of Socorro, NM, and Tod Russell McVey (Roschelle) of Jacksonville, FL; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rosamond; his parents; and an infant son Patrick Michael McVey.

Pastor Dan Cash will conduct a celebration of life service with full military honors on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Swartz Family Community and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) Franklin, IN, 46131 and will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/Howard-McVey. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Private family inurnment will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery in Shelbyville, IN.
