COLUMBUS

Brenda (Kreutz) Sands passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020 at Columbus Regional Hospice Center. Brenda was born October 10, 1936 in Amsterdam, New York, the daughter of Elsie and Raymond Fletcher.

Brenda Fletcher and Gary Kreutz were married on June 16, 1956. Gary died in 1990. They were married for 33 years.

Brenda met Lawrence “Pete” Sands in 1995 on a cross country bicycle trip. They were married in 1998.

Pete and Brenda lived in California for several years. In 2019 they moved to Columbus, Indiana to be near Karla and Bill Russell, their daughter and son-in-law.

When Brenda and Gary Kreutz were living in Columbus, Gary worked for Cummins Engine Company in the Personnel Department. Brenda and Jo Stattenfield formed a partnership called, Systems Two. Together, they worked as computer consultants for Cummins Engine Company along with other local businesses. Brenda was a systems analyst with IBM for many years while living in Columbus, London England and Westerville, Ohio.

Brenda enjoyed bicycling. She’s bicycled across the country 3 times with Pete. They met on the first cross-country trip in 1995. She’s bicycled in Europe, Tasmania, over the Andes and all over the U.S. She was riding as recently as this past summer.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence “Pete”; children, Kees Kreutz of Capitola, CA. and Karla (Kreutz) Russell of Columbus; grandchildren, Sebastian Kreutz, Logan Kreutz, Renate Faye Russell and great-granddaughter, Riley Faye Lee-Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Gary Kreutz and brother, Raymond Russwald Fletcher.

In keeping with the family’s request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
