COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a habitual traffic violator on a number of drug charges after his vehicle was stopped early Thursday morning.
At approximately 12:25 a.m., CPD officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a downtown alley. A short time later, officers stopped a vehicle matching the description of the suspicious vehicle near 11th Street and Washington Street after seeing the driver, who was later identified as Allen W. Tidwell, 43, of Hope, commit a minor traffic violation, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
While speaking with Tidwell, the officers determined that he did not have a valid driver’s license. A CPD canine also alerted to the odor of narcotics inside Tidwell’s vehicle, Harris said.
A search of the vehicle was conducted by officers who reportedly located a backpack containing narcotics, prescription drugs, and drug paraphernalia, Harris said.
Tidwell was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic offender – lifetime suspension, possession of heroin, possession of a legend drug injection device, possession of a legend drug, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
