Turning Point receives grant

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute has awarded $500,000 to 28 domestic violence shelters in Indiana through the Social Services Block Grant program, including a grant for Turning Point Domestic Violence Services in Bartholomew County.

Turning Point’s Emergency Residential Services Program, which provides residential shelter services in a five-county region to victims of domestic violence and their children, received $25,200 in grant money.

The Jennings County Council on Domestic Violence, which operates an emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence and their children, received a $6,000 grant.

The funding is provided through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Since the grant program was established in 1981, states have been given authorization to determine funding priorities. This year, the grant money is being used to offset the cost of certain operational expenses including housing, food and other basic necessities.
