OMAHA, Nebraska — Michael Brinegar qualified for tonight’s 800-meter freestyle final at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Brinegar, a Columbus resident and Indiana University redshirt sophomore, had the fourth-fastest prelim time with a 7 minute, 55.50-second clocking Wednesday morning. The top two make the Olympic team, and Brinegar is less than 1 1/2 seconds off the No. 2 qualifier.

Brinegar also will compete in the 1,500 freestyle prelims on Saturday, and if he makes it, the final on Sunday.
