Lois Ellen Baker

COLUMBUS

Lois Ellen Baker, 95, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.

Mrs. Baker was born December 7, 1925, in Flat Rock, Indiana, the loving daughter of Thomas and Edith Caudell Cochran. On February 4, 1946, Lois married Joe Morris Baker; he preceded her in death January 12, 2019.

Mrs. Baker was the valedictorian of the 1943 graduating class of Flat Rock High School and she later graduated from Indiana Business College.

Mrs. Baker was an administrative assistant at the former Union Starch Company and later was the administrative assistant at Irwin Management retiring after over 30 years of service. She was a founding member of the O.N.O. Home Ec Club and she faithfully attended Sandy Hook United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her membership in the Scrabble Club, reading and doing needlepoint.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Phil (Susie) Baker of Columbus, Mike Baker (Cynthia Stuart) of Graham, North Carolina, Jane Baker (Wanda Ferguson) of North Vernon, and Peggy (Mark) Maze of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Nancy Baker of Franklin, Tennessee; grandchildren, Travis Baker of Bloomington, Joe Baker of Bloomington, Amy (Mark) Stewart of Columbus, Kris (Mandy) Baker of Columbus, Mariel (Nate) Lewis of Carmel, Jeremiah (Starr) Baker of Graham, North Carolina, Amanda (Sean) Perry of Graham, North Carolina, Whitney Baker of Graham, North Carolina, Josh (Ashley) Maze of Round Rock, Texas, Matt (Heather) Maze of Columbus, and Brandon (Mallory) Maze of Bloomington; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Criswell.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Edith Cochran; her husband of nearly 74 years, Joe Morris Baker; son, Steve Baker; grandson, Eric Baker; and brother, Kenneth Cochran.

A private graveside service will be held at the Flat Rock Cemetery in the town of Flat Rock; Brian Ebersold will officiate. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fireman’s Cheer Fund, United Way, or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
