Around Town – June 29

Orchids to …

• Larry Bledsoe and his coworkers for keeping our church, Community Church of Columbus, in pristine, clean condition.

• those willing to go big in investing for the future of our great country.

• Ian for his generosity and brightening our day! from Cindy.

• The Republic’s photo editor Mike Wolanin for a superb shot of the “City of Wichita,” the aluminum pterodactyl that’s been in our skies the last few days.

• the local, county and state police for their respectful and professional situation in our neighborhood of Forest Park on Sunday.

• Joe at Long’s Mattress in Columbus for exceptional customer service, from Wanda.

• Scott Keen’s great letter.

Onions to …

• referring to a person as “white trash,” which is an aberration of civility and morality.

• the communications group that has no interest in promoting the biggest preparedness weekend of the year.

• the sore loser who calls his opponents cheaters, the scoreboard defective, the referees unfair, and tells everyone that he won.

• the former national leader that remained silent during the impeachment proceedings, but now defends the outcome of our election.

• naming a race track after a driver who was responsible for causing the death of another driver.

• poor maintenance of the city parking lots on Franklin Street.

• cleaning up after neighbors’ cats that keep coming into my backyard.

• the systemic racism letter that’s part of the problem.

• officials not realizing Columbus is not in near the financial shape it was 10 years ago and yet plows ahead with wasteful “look at what we did” projects.

• the girl for dragging her goat by the horns because that can cause a lot of damage to the horns and to the goat’s health.

• the county for removing the white lines on County Road 450.

• all the businesses that got free government money that did not need it.

• leaving six hiring signs at a county crossroad which is ridiculous since everyone knows everyone is hiring and people don’t want to work.

• anyone who thinks that someone who believes in abortion has true Christian principles.

• not knowing nearly all COVID-19 deaths in U.S. are now among unvaccinated people.

• drivers of off-road vehicles speeding in the housing addition, endangering children and families walking and parents with baby carriages.

• the socialist-Marxist concept of reparation.

• the hate-filled letter to the editor.

• people that park their cars in front of their neighbor’s house instead of their own.

• those who push false critical race theory and systemic racism while ignoring the real problems that affect minorities.

• all show and tell, show up for picture ops and tell all lies.

Happy Birthday to …

• Heather Weddle, from Grandma Weddle.
