FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A man fleeing officers at a high rate of speed crashed his car, killing himself and two passengers, Fort Wayne police said Thursday.
The car struck a light pole, a tree, a house and a gas line, police said in a statement said. All three people inside the vehicle were declared dead at the scene. Their names were not immediately released.
Police responding to a report of an intoxicated man shortly after midnight Thursday tried to contact the man sitting in the driver’s seat of the car, but he refused to stop and drove away, traveling at a high rate of speed and eluding officers, police said.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle but moments later found it had crashed, police said.
Residents in the area were evacuated from their homes because of the gas line was struck, police said.
