July 4th closings

The following closings have been announced for Fourth of July:

  • All Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle (BMV) branches will be closed Saturday through Monday, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. All branches will resume regularly scheduled business hours on Tuesday. For a complete list of branch locations and hours, to complete an online transaction, or to find a 24-hour BMV Connect kiosk, visit IN.gov/BMV.
  • Columbus City Hall is closed on Monday.
  • Columbus will operate its trash collection schedule as normal on Monday, although the city Department of Public Works office will be closed. Toters should be out for Monday collection at 7 a.m. The office will reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Bartholomew County offices including the courthouse are closed on Monday.
  • The Columbus City Utilities Office will be closed Monday. Summer business hours will resume Tuesday at 7 a.m. If you have a problem with your water or sewer service, call the business office at 812-372-8861 and follow the prompts.

  • U.S. Post Offices will be closed for retail transactions on Monday. There will be no mail delivery, caller service or Post Office Box service. All services will resume on Tuesday. The Post Office will be open regularly scheduled hours on Saturday, July 3. Customers who wish to purchase stamps, mail packages, or ship urgent letters or packages on Monday may use the Self Service Kiosks. The ATM-like kiosk accepts credit or debit cards only and can handle about 80 percent of typical postal transactions.
