Peg Pauline Shireman-Cook

COLUMBUS

Peg Shireman-Cook, 70, of Columbus, died peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021.

Born on April 5, 1951, in Columbus, Indiana, she was the daughter of Norman “Gene” Lienhoop and Wynona Woods Lienhoop. She married Rex Cook. He proceeded her in death on July 25, 2017.

Peg was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She graduated from St. Peter’s Lutheran School in 1965 and Columbus High School in 1969. Peg was the first female to complete the Vocational Agriculture course at Columbus High School. She served as the Secretary and Reporter during her membership in FFA. Peg was also very active in 4-H and Junior Leaders. She also served as a 4-H Leader for the Harrison Honeys 4-H Club for many years.

Peg worked for Johnson Oil Company and later for Parker Portraits. She then retired and focused on spending time with her grandchildren. Being Maw was her favorite job of all! Aside from being with her children and grandchildren, Peg enjoyed working outside, especially tending to the flowers in her flower gardens. In recent years she took up knitting and made hundreds of sock hats.

Peg’s grandchildren were her absolute pride and joy. Despite not being a sports fan she always wanted to watch her grandchildren in whatever sport they were playing-even if that meant spending a freezing night outside watching one of her grandsons play football, or more recently, watching games through live stream.

Surviving are her mother, Wynona Lienhoop; daughters, Chari (Matt) Hayden of Hebron, Indiana, Adelaide (Mike) Wetzel of Columbus; grandchildren, Connor and Zach Hayden of Hebron, Indiana and Willa and Lane Wetzel of Columbus; brother, Bruce (Lisa) Lienhoop, also of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Lienhoop; husband, Rex; sisters, Jenny McDaniel, Diane Duncan and brother-in-law, Dave Duncan.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held on July 17th, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
