Ray Sweet

Ray Sweet, 80, of Columbus, passed from this life peacefully at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021, comforted by his wife and immediate family at his side.

Mr. Sweet was born November 28, 1940, in Somerset, Kentucky, the son of James F. and Rosa A. Hodge Sweet.

He married Terry L. DeBusk November 25, 1962.

Ray retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1995 after 35 years of service and worked as a consultant an additional 12 years.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 59 years; sons, Jeff (Karen) Sweet of Columbus and Steve (Michele) Sweet of Greensburg; grandchildren, Bryce (Cassy) Minor, Jessica (John Meyer) Sweet, Cole Olibo, Jared Sweet, Sarah Sweet, Aaron Sweet, Joseph Sweet and Matthew Sweet; 7 great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Clay (Darlene) Sweet of Lovett and a sister, Betty (Ira) Holt of Seymour.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Homer and Henry Sweet and sisters, Frances Walls, Hazel Hobbs, Mary Sweet and Nancy Moore.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Andy Kilps officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday and 1:30 p.m. to time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Hope Moravian Church.
