ORO VALLEY, Ariz.
On June 6, 1937, in North Vernon, Indiana Charles F. Schwacke and Marie Haley Schwacke welcomed into the world the first of their four daughters Anne Marie (Schwacke) Koontz. Anne passed from this life on July 26, 2021 in Oro Valley, AZ.
Anne received her bachelor’s degree from Ball State University and her Masters degree from Central Michigan University. She spent 35 years teaching the children of Harbor Springs with the Harbor Springs Public Schools system. She also worked as a math consultant for the State of Michigan which was coordinated by Central Michigan University.
On June 3, 1961 she married Ronald E. Koontz and they recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary. Together they raised four children Charles Edgar “Minnow” (Lei), Michelle Anne Reichert (Steve), John Scott “Guppy” (Tina), and Christina Jane Koontz Zaenglein (Roger).
Anne enjoyed playing golf, hiking the mountain trails in Arizona, birding with the Audubon Society, cross country skiing, and watching the University of Arizona Wildcats basketball teams. Anne was an avid participant in any individual or team sport that she could find. She was also an avid reader and belonged to book discussion groups both in Harbor Springs, MI and Oro Valley, AZ. While still living in Harbor Springs, she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist at Holy Childhood of Jesus Church.
Anne is survived by her husband, Ron, her four children, their spouses, her grand children (Sarah Anne Reichert, Mitchell Reichert, Chloe Zaenglein, Sophia Zaenglein, Cody Koontz and Tanner Koontz) and her sisters Jane Hillerson of Scottsdale, AZ, Carole Marshall of Columbus, IN, and Frances Framme (Lawrence) of Richmond, VA, and many nieces and nephews.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie, and by her infant granddaughter Renee Lei Koontz.
A memorial service will be held later at a date to be determined.
