North to host first all-team Blue and White Night

For the past 15 or so years, Columbus North has put its fall sports teams on display at a “Blue and White Day” the first Saturday in August.

This year, all 21 Bull Dog sports teams will be present, and most of the fall sports teams will perform Saturday at North High School in the first “All Team Blue and White Night.”

Doors open at 4 p.m., and there will be a kickoff and raffle entry in the main gym. From 5 to 6 p.m., fans can meet and greet boys soccer, baseball, boys basketball, boys golf, boys and girls track, football, girls basketball, gymnastics, softball, girls tennis, Unified track and wrestling teams along Bull Dog Lane.

From 5:30 to 6 p.m., volleyball will be in the main gym, girls soccer on the football field, boys and girls swimming in the pool area and boys tennis at the tennis courts. The boys soccer team will scrimmage from 6 to 6:30 p.m. on the football field.

From 6 to 7 p.m., fans can meet and greet cheerleaders, boys tennis, volleyball, boys and girls swimming, boys and girls cross-country and girls soccer teams along Bull Dog Lane. The football team will have a parent and player info session in the visitors bleachers from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

North’s winner and spring sports teams will have a trike race on the track from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. The trike awards and raffle draw will take place from 6:45 to 7 p.m.

Parent and player info sessions will be from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the visitors bleachers for the cross-country teams and from 7 to 7:30 p.m. on Bull Dog Lane for baseball, basketball, cheer, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track, Unified track, volleyball and wrestling.

The football team will scrimmage beginning at 7:30 p.m. The boys and girls cross-country teams will run at halftime of the football scrimmage.

Bull Dogs win Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award

Columbus North’s girls soccer team has won the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the laws of the game.

North earned the Silver Award, which is given to teams with between 0.11 and 0.30 yellow or red cards per game.

McIntosh selected North baseball MVP

Kyler McIntosh, who set Columbus North school records for wins and fewest walks in a season in leading the Bull Dogs to Conference Indiana and sectional titles, has been named their baseball Most Valuable Player.

McIntosh also was named Most Valuable Pitcher and won the Big Stick Award for highest batting average. Reese Harmon won the Bull Dog Award and was named Most Versatile Player. Austin Bode was named Most Valuable Offensive Player, Most Valuable Defensive Player and was the Quality At-Bat Champion. Will Baker was the Defensive Web Gem winner, and Blake Stevens won the Black and Blue Award for most times hit by pitches.

Tyler Blythe was named junior varsity MVP. Rylan Wormer won the JV Bull Dog Award.

Pair share Hauser golf MVP award

Chase Martoccia and Justice Gilliland have been named co-MVPs of the Hauser boys golf team.

Gilliland was selected Most Improved Player (varsity), and Jesse Bragg received the Most Improved Player (reserve). Other statistical award winners were Martoccia (Par 4 and 5 scoring average and (Gilliland) Par 3 scoring average.

Meanwhile, Gilliland signed on Monday to continue his career at Trinity Christian College in suburban Chicago.
