Columbus East senior wrestler Noah Lykins is delving into a different sport to try to raise money for a scholarship fund in honor of a fallen classmate.
Lykins is setting up a Par 3 golf scramble as his senior project to benefit the Lily Streeval Academic Fund. Streeval was killed by a hit-and-run driver as she was attempting to board a school bus on Aug. 30.
Lykins came up with the idea for the golf scramble with the help of senior project coordinator Angie Arnholt.
“I thought it was a really good cause that I was going to try to raise money for,” Lykins said. “(Arnholt) suggested the golf tournament. So she got me together with some people who knew what they were doing, and this was the right way to go.”
The scramble will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 at Par 3 Golf Course. Cost is $25 per player, and freewill donations also will be accepted.
Players can show up at noon Oct. 23 to register or can preregister by calling Lykins at 812-447-9011 or Arnholt at 812-350-5582.
“I’m really proud of Noah because he set this up, and he doesn’t even play golf,” Arnholt said. “He and I decided this would be a good way to honor (Streeval). My son plays golf, so I have some connections there, and I knew (Lykins) would be great at organizing it.”
