Bicentennial organizers are inviting kids, teens and adults to share their ideas for the future of Bartholomew County for a chance to win monetary prizes and other honors.
The “Bartholomew County: Your Vision Our Future” essay contest is sponsored by the Columbus Area Bicentennial Committee and open to current residents of Bartholomew County.
“It takes visionary people working together to build a brighter future,” organizers said in the contest description. “One person can make a difference, but our community also believes that we are better together. With that in mind, please share your vision for what the future of our county can be.”
The contest is divided into three categories: kindergarten through sixth grade, seventh through 12th grade, and adults (18 years and older).
Winners will be announced in December of 2021. According to the entry form, first place winners in each category will receive $400. They will also be invited to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for the 1821 Trail extension, and their names will be put on commemorative bricks along the trail. Second place winners in each category will receive $100.
All essay submissions will be archived and used by both the bicentennial committee and the Bartholomew County Historical Society.
The maximum length for essays is 450 words. Submissions must be made by midnight on Nov. 12.
