Liam Curfman // Columbus North freshman wrestler

Curfman won three matches by pin, including two in 32 seconds, and another by forfeit Saturday to go 4-0 and help lead the Bull Dogs to a 4-0 record and the North Invitational title.

His performance last week: “I was just having fun and using the stuff I’ve learned.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just kind of get in the right mindset and go over what I know.”

Favorite drink: “Water .”

Favorite food: “Bananas.”

Favorite class: “Weights.”

Favorite sports team: “Ohio State”

Favorite athlete: “(Olympic wrestler) Kyle Snyder”

Role model: “My dad (Grant Curfman) or my coach (Matt Joyce)”

Best advice: “You get what you work for.”

Athletics goal: “Hopefully get a scholarship to Ohio State for wrestling.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Somewhere tropical like Hawaii. I like the tropics.”

Madelyn Poe // Hauser sophomore basketball player

Poe led the Jets with 20 points in a 61-39 win at South Decatur and with 29 points in Saturday’s 68-61 victory at South Dearborn.

Her performance last week: “I think that we all played really well as a team, and we got two wins, which is most important.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually, I listed to Christian music on the bus, and I say a prayer during the National Anthem.”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite class: “Math or Geometry”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “(Former IU basketball player) Tyra Buss or Michael Jordan”

Role model: “My parents (Jessica and Cameron Poe)”

Best advice: “No matter what, don’t give up because giving up isn’t going to help you in the long run.”

Athletics goal: “I would like to play college basketball.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Hawaii, because I love the beach and I’ve always wanted to go there.”
