MALE

Daniel Utterback // Columbus North junior swimmer

Utterback won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 freestyle to lead the Bull Frogs to a 98-85 win at Bloomington South.

His performance last week: “I was just trying to get the job done for the team points-wise, and I was pretty happy.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Dual meets, we to our typical warmups, not anything special, but whenever it comes to championships, we start shaving, and we taper and stuff like that.”

Favorite drink: “Red Bull.”

Favorite food: “Steak.”

Favorite class: “AP Physics”

Favorite sports team: “Notre Dame football”

Favorite athlete: “Caleb Dressell”

Role model: “I look up to (North graduate and Indiana University freshman) Christopher Lee. He worked really hard for the two years I swam with him.”

Best advice: “Make sure that you’re honest with everything you’re doing. Never try to put up a facade for anything because honesty will give you the best results.”

Athletics goal: “To hopefully get back to state in two events like last year.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Disney World, because I remember going there whenever I was little, and I miss it and I want to go back there.”

Paige Maddox // Columbus North senior swimmer

Maddox won the 500-yard freestyle to lead the Bull Frogs in a 128-58 loss at Bloomington South.

Her performance last week: “I’ve been working a lot on my stroke technique. I knew that was something I needed to focus on, and it definitely paid off. I felt strong while I was swimming.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Just go to practice and have the same mindset going into every meet that I could do everything I needed to do to help my team.”

Favorite drink: “Coke Zero”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite class: “AP Language and Composition”

Favorite sports team: “Michigan football”

Favorite athlete: “Katie Ledecky”

Role model: “My parents (Jason and Lisa Maddox). They work hard every day, and they never slack, and they’re good people.”

Best advice: “Focus on what you’re doing the moment, and don’t focus on what’s ahead of what you’ve done.”

Athletics goal: “To try to win sectional in the 500 freestyle.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Scotland. I think the countryside in Scotland is really beautiful, and I’d like to see it in person.”
