COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Otter Creek Management Corp. board of directors is recommending the City of Columbus consider selling Otter Creek Golf Course.

“This (the golf course) is an amazing gift from Mr. Irwin J. Miller and Cummins,” said John McCormick, board chair. “it dates all the way back to 1964. For us to be responsible stewards of this remarkable community asset, we need the resources to sustain and return it to its stature as a top tier course.”

McCormick said, “We don’t think it’s right to ask taxpayers, nor is the city necessarily able, to make the investment in current an future capital requirements to return the course to its full prominence and remain commercially viable.”

Describing the golf course as “marginally profitable” in 2020 and 2021 with support from the city, the board members agreed that profits are not sufficient to fund capital requirements for the clubhouse and golf course repair, according to a statement released from the board.

The clubhouse needs renovation on the exterior and interior and an upgrade to its mechanical systems, board members said.

The board members recommendation will be presented to Columbus city officials and to the Columbus City Council as the decision-making authority, board members said.
