Services and studies

Asbury United Methodist Church — Asbury offers a traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. Nursery is available for both services. J.A.M. (children’s church) is offered at both services. The church also offers Sunday school classes at 10 a.m.

Asbury Kids meets each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. There are four classes available: birth through 3 years old, Asbury Kids-4 years through first grade; Asbury Kids-second through fifth grade; and Asbury Junior High-sixth through eighth grade. Each class will have a Bible story, a craft or activity, a snack, a time of prayer, and a time of fellowship. As always, your kids and youth can bring a friend. Holy Week Schedule: April 10, Palm Sunday is at 8:45 and 11 a.m.; April 14, Maundy Thursday Service is at 6:30 p.m. (contemporary worship center), April 15, Good Friday, 6:30 p.m. (sanctuary), April 16-17, 24-hour Easter Prayer Vigil; April 17, traditional Easter service, 8:45 a.m. in the sanctuary, breakfast, 9:30 a.m., Easter Egg Hunt, 10:30 a.m., contemporary service, 11 a.m. in the contemporary worship center.

Asbury offers lunch for high school students and visitors on Thursdays (schedule is based on the BCSC calendar) from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. for only $4 per person.

Columbus Baptist Church — The church offers worship services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. A teen service is offered at 6:30 p.m. Sunday school for all ages meets at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study, Kids Club, and Teens meet at 6:30 p.m. There are various small group events weekly.

Community Church of Columbus — Community Church of Columbus meets for Sunday service at 9 and 10:30 a.m. The second service is livestreamed and available on the Community Church’s Columbus Indiana Facebook page and Community Church of Columbus YouTube channel.

DC4K (DivorceCare For Kids) is a 12-week interactive group that started on started on Tuesday, Feb. 15, for children in grades 2-6 whose parents are either separated or going through a divorce. DC4K meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., and dinner is also available at 5:30 p.m. In addition, DivorceCare support group for adults meets at the same location at the same time. East Columbus Christian Church — East Columbus Christian Church is open for in-person worship on Sunday mornings with a blended worship service at 10 a.m. The church also has online worship available through Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday morning Bible study is at 9 a.m. Youth meet at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and children’s ministry meets through Zoom on Wednesdays at 5 p.m.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Pastor Ann Thomas will bring the message at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. The blended worship service includes praise music, traditional hymns and children’s moment, a time when the children receive a special message. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month. The morning service is available online Sunday afternoon through the church’s Facebook and YouTube pages for those not yet comfortable meeting in person. Face coverings are optional at services.

Sunday school is held immediately after the morning service and classes are available for all ages and Bible interests.

The Sunday Evening Chapel Service is held twice per month. Check the church website for dates and times.

“Grace’s Table” Free Hot Meal is served April 10 and the second Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. in the youth center. Tuesday afternoon Bible study meets at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Men’s breakfast is held once a month (call the church office for dates and times).

Faith Lutheran Church — The church livestreams worship each Sunday at 9 a.m. along with daily devotions Monday through Thursday at 7 a.m. on the church’s Facebook page. The congregation also meets for in-person services each Sunday morning (masks encouraged) at 9 a.m. and Wednesday (mask required) at 4 p.m. following recommended health guidelines. First Lutheran Church — The church offers in-person worship on Sunday mornings at 8:45 a.m. for the classic service and 11:15 a.m. for the casual service. Livestreaming of both services can be accessed on electronic devices at the church YouTube page.

First Presbyterian Church — The church is back to worshiping in-person in the sanctuary (masks required) and with livestreaming in the gym.

The service will be at 9:30 a.m. at church or livestreamed on Facebook, Zoom or YouTube. For more details on the church’s response to COVID, refer to fpccolumbus.org.

Those in the community in need of a meal are invited to the hot meals program, which is offered Friday starting at 5 p.m. (Enter through the glass doors on Franklin Street.) The church is an LGBTQ-friendly church.

First United Methodist Church — On Sunday, April 10, at 10 a.m., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “A Bittersweet Journey: Consistency.” The scripture will be Luke 19:28-40.

The church encourages those who are attending in person to arrive 10 minutes before the services and use either the Eighth Street or Lafayette Street doors. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrances to the sanctuary. Masks will be required while you are in the building. Masks are available if you don’t have one.

Sunday school for kids up to sixth grade will begin at 9 a.m. in fellowship hall. Childcare will be available from 9:45 a.m. until the end of the 10 a.m. service.

The Rev. Boles will continue to lead a Lenten Sunday school class in fellowship hall at 11 a.m. The class is using the devotional “Full to the Brim,” and will run through Easter Sunday. A Zoom option will also be available (contact Pastor Boles for the link).

On Thursday, April 14, the church will have its Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. The message will be “A Bittersweet Journey: Selflessness,” and the scripture will be John 13:1-17, 31b-35.

On Friday, April 15, the church will have its Good Friday service at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The message will be “A Bittersweet Journey: Dying to Self,” and the scripture will be John 18-19.

The church will have two opportunities for worship on Easter Sunday (April 17). There will be a 7 a.m. Sunrise Service in the green space across Ninth Street (weather permitting; fellowship hall will be the backup) and then a 10 a.m. worship service in the sanctuary.

For those unable to make it to the in-person services, or who are not yet comfortable meeting in person, a 10 a.m. livestream of the service will be on the church’s Facebook page or YouTube channel and will be available on the church’s website for later viewing.

Flintwood Wesleyan Church — Sunday morning worship begins at 9 a.m. with the Amplify (contemporary) service. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. with classes for all age groups. The Well (traditional) service begins at 11 a.m. Both worship services are led by Pastor Wesley Jones. The church’s Sunday Amplify services are livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday evening is devoted to Celebrate Recovery meetings. The meetings are designed to assist in ridding hurts, habits and hang-ups. The church has started serving meals again. At this time, there is one meal each month every second-to-last Sunday. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. with getting to know each other, singing, and a lesson, and are open to the public. At 7 p.m., there is an open share meeting that splits into a group for women and a group for men. Safe child care is available.

Wednesday activities begin with a meal served at 5:30 p.m. in the friendship center. The iKids program begins at 6:15 p.m. and youth meet downstairs in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. Prayer Team meets in the prayer room downstairs in the main building at 6:15 p.m., and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Scouts are meeting Thursdays at 7 p.m.

Memorial Baptist Church — The church is offering in-person and online worship services at 9:30 a.m. Sunday school is offered online at 10:45 a.m. Online services are via Facebook and YouTube.

Multiple worship services are scheduled for Eastertide. Those include Palm Sunday on April 10 at 9:30 a.m. and Maundy Thursday on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. Easter Sunday services will begin with the sunrise service at 7 a.m. with breakfast to follow, as well as an Easter worship service at 9:30 a.m. The topic for April 24 will be “A Surprise Turnaround.”

Mount Pleasant Christian Union Church — The church invites the community to visit their little 150-year-old country church for a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The church preaches out of the King James Bible and sings out of hymn books.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Pastor Al White, the church’s transitional pastor, is leading worship and sharing messages that encourage firm foundations of faith in Jesus. Simple church — simply Jesus.

The church has added a time for discipleship growth at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings. There’s always a coffee and donut time downstairs before the morning worship time at 10 a.m.

Petersville United Methodist Church — The traditional Palm Sunday worship service will begin at 9 a.m. with a procession and waving of palms by the youth and adults in attendance. Pastor Rebecca Milne will bring the message titled, “The Lord Needs It” based on scripture from Psalms 118:1-2, 19-29 and from Luke 19:28-40.

Teresa Covert will lead the children’s message and Kathy Bush will be worship leader. Following worship service a time of fellowship will be shared by those wishing to attend. The final lesson in the Lenten Study will take place at 10:30 a.m., and all are invited to join this study.

Holy week activities include Maundy Thursday service April 14 at 6:30 p.m. On April 15, all members are encouraged to attend the Ecumenical Assembly-led Community Good Friday service at The Commons at noon. Also, at 7 p.m. April 15th, Petersville and Sandy Hook United Methodist Churches will have a joint Good Friday service at Sandy Hook United Methodist Church. All are invited.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Church — Sandy Hook United Methodist Church gathers weekly for in-person and online worship. The church will offer two services April 10 — the traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and the contemporary service at 11 a.m.

Nursery is available for children 2 and younger from 8:30 a.m. until the end of the second service. Sunday school classes are offered between services at 10 a.m.

Masks are recommended.

The Book of Revelation bible study continues to meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in-person and online. Handouts and videos of previous study nights for this are available at www.sandyhook.org/revelation.

Pickleball will be offered in the parking lot after the Revelation study, weather permitting.

St. Paul Lutheran Church — Palm Sunday services will be held Sunday at 8 and 10:45 a.m. Pastor Doug Bauman’s sermon will be “Let Him Save Himself,” based on Luke 23:35. Children are invited to participate in the procession of palms at both services.

All family and friends are invited to hear confirmands Riley Byford, Briana Chun, Hannah Helt, Abigail Knollman, Joseph Mau, Linna Pan, Morgan Scott and Providence Wofford offer their confession of faith Sunday in the Fellowship Room at 9:30 a.m. Their confirmation service and first communion will be on Sunday, April 24, at the 10:45 a.m. service.

The Spanish worship service will be in the fellowship room at 10:45 a.m., with Spanish Sunday school at noon. An Easter egg hunt will follow.

A Maundy Thursday service with Holy Communion and stripping of the altar will be held Thursday at 6:45 p.m. The theme of Pastor Bauman’s sermon will be “Bread of Life.” The 10 a.m. Good Friday service will be designed for children and families with the theme “The Way … He Walked the Way of Sorrows.” The early childhood children will sing and family activities will follow the service from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. A Good Friday Communion service of darkness with Pastor Bauman’s sermon entitled ”I Am” based on John 18:1-11 will be held in the church at 6:45 p.m. On Sunday, April 17, Easter Festival services will be held in the church at 7, 9 & 10:45 a.m.

Radio worship service is every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on WYGS 91.1 FM, which also broadcasts the Lutheran Hour every Sunday at 7 p.m.

Wednesday adult Bible classes studying the Gospel of John meet at 9 a.m.

The Early Childhood Ministry will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a CARnival on Saturday, April 23, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the church parking lot.

St. Paul Lutheran Early Childhood Ministry is now enrolling for the 2022-2023 school year. St. Paul offers a comprehensive, half-day kindergarten program and a 3-year-olds preschool class, extended care, and STEM enrichment sessions.

Westside Community Church — WCC has resumed in-facility Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. The worship service will also continue to be broadcast in the parking lot on FM 87.9 at 10 a.m.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Grace’s Table is a free meal in a drive-in format with entertainment. Presented by East Columbus United Methodist Church April 10 and every second Sunday at 5 p.m. There will be music and storytelling. Enter the church parking lot and come right at 5 p.m. so you don’t miss the story. Tables available for walk-ups.

Good Friday — Bethel Community Church, First United Methodist of Seymour, Trinity United Methodist, Rockford United Methodist, and Seymour Harvest Church cordially invite the community to worship with them as they host a joint Good Friday event. At noon on April 15, the service will begin at Bethel Community Church of Seymour, 350 Calvin Blvd., with song, prayer, and scripture reading. Participants will then proceed carrying the cross through neighborhoods, accompanied with scripture and song, from Bethel to First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third St., Seymour, where the service will conclude with song, prayer, and scripture reading. All are invited to participate.

Healing Waters Ministries — On April 9, the Annual Community Easter Egg Event Hunt will be from 1 to 3 p.m. with free food and prize giveaways as well as 5,000 Easter Eggs.

On April 15 and 16 will be the “Journey to The Cross” Easter event. If you joined the church for “A Night in Bethlehem,” then “A Journey to The Cross” is a must on either Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. or Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.
