A local robotics team has won the state championship and is headed to an international competition in Texas later this week.

Team 4926, nicknamed GalacTech, competed in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Indiana State Championship at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute on Friday and Saturday. The team ranked third during qualification matches and advanced to the playoffs, where it worked in an alliance with Teams 829 (the Digital Goats, Indianapolis) and 7617 (the RoboBlazers, Carmel) to win the championship.

According to Columbus Robotics president and Team 4926 founder Sam Geckler, the team’s performance has qualified them to compete for the FIRST Championship in Houston, an international event taking place from April 20-23.
