East salvages split

FORTVILLE — Savanna Sullivan clubbed a three-run homer in the top of the seventh Saturday to give Columbus East an 8-6 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Mt. Vernon.

Kaylee Cole went 4 for 4 with three RBIs for the Olympians (2-6). Kenzie Foster went 2 for 3, and Mackenzie Sigman, Addy Ross and Sullivan all went 2 for 4.

Mt. Vernon won the first game 11-1 in six innings. Ross went 2 for 3 for East.

Lancers top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Gracie Crawhorn went 4 for 4 with a double, three home runs and eight RBIs to lead Edinburgh to an 11-5 win at Brown County.

MacKenzie Bieker went 2 for 4 with two homers and three RBIs and struck out 12 for the Lancers (3-4). Kyah Streeval went 2 for 4 with a triple, and Angel Carman went 2 for 4.

Maddy Huff went 3 for 4, Avan Sanders went 2 for 4 and Savannah Oden homered for the Eagles (0-5).

Trinity takes loss

INDIANAPOLIS — Trinity Lutheran matched Living Water HomeSchool with seven hits, but took its first loss of the season, a 9-3 defeat.

Madison Keith had two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars (5-1). Grace Lance also had two hits.

BOYS GOLF

Bull Dogs finish third

GREENWOOD — No. 13-ranked Columbus North finished third in the Center Grove Invitational at Hickory Stick.

Top-ranked Center Grove won with a 312. Silver Creek finished second with a 318, and the No. 13 Bull Dogs had a 320.

Luke Schneider and Willy Davis tied for fifth individually with 77s to lead North. Tyler Wilks added an 80, and Jack Schiavello and Brady Schneider each shot 86.

Columbus East finished 15th with a season-best 356. Pierce Arnholt led the Olympians with an 83, while Spencer Erfmeier carded an 88, Carter Greene added a 92, J.T. Kuhlman shot 93 and Ben Luedeke had a 98.

Eagles finish eighth

BLOOMINGTON — Brown County finished eighth in the Edgewood Invitational with a 420 at Cascades. South Spencer edged Brownstown Central 351-352 for the title.

Cooper VanNess led the Eagles with a 95. Kody Walsh carded a 104, Eli Sichting added a 109, Clay Austin shot 112 and Wesley Arndt had a 121.

BASEBALL

Tigers sweep Jets

LAWRENCEBURG — Hauser dropped a pair of five-inning games at Lawrenceburg, falling 10-0 and 11-1.

The Jets were held hitless in the opener. Simeon Wasil went 2 for 3 to record half of the four hits for Hauser (3-6) in the second game.

Cougars top Eagles

NASHVILLE — South Decatur scored 12 times in the first three innings and went on to defeat Brown County 16-3.

Avery Seegers, Zaydun Sharp and Devin Pate all had two hits for the Cougars (8-1). Nick Cooney had two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles (0-3).

GIRLS TENNIS

Jets fall to Batesville

HOPE — Hauser won the No. 1 doubles match, but Batesville took the other four in a 4-1 decision.

Gabby Johns and Charlie Clark beat Cayman Werner and Belle Westerfeld 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles for the Jets (1-3).

Hauser’s Bella Kilps fell to Summer Ratcliffe 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Addyson Barriger lost to Laney Walsman 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Lydia Jordan fell to Isabelle Wonnell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Mattie Foster and Abby Blair lost to Annie Negovetich and Molly Meer 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers blank Cougars

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Trinity Lutheran.

Reagan Brown beat Sarah Lemming 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown downed Drew Hubbard 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Mia Silvey topped Gabby Bleier 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (3-3).

Jennings’ Maria Ecker Alberti and Lucy Brown defeated Ella Christopher and Kiley Zabel 7-6 (4), 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Caitlyn Shuck and Amy Vogel beat Camron Bowling and Natalee Martinez 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
