Letter: Duke thanks local customers who lost power after storm

From: Chip Orben, Duke Energy government and community relations manager

Columbus

The storms that moved through Indiana recently were a reminder of how nature can disrupt our daily lives. In addition to the destruction they caused, more than 57,000 Duke Energy customers in Indiana lost their electric service due to the storms. Our Columbus district was the hardest hit with more than 24,000 without power.

On behalf of the line workers, tree trimmers, damage assessors and support personnel at Duke Energy, I thank our customers for their patience and support while we restored service. In Columbus alone, we had 400 different cases of repairs to be worked — all with varying levels of complexity. We’re grateful to our customers for their understanding, and we’re appreciative of our employees and contractors who worked around-the-clock to help us restore power.

One of the advantages of being part of a large family of companies is the ability to draw on resources beyond the borders of our state when these kinds of damaging storms strike. Duke Energy employees from Ohio joined with local crews and contractors as well as employees from northern Indiana to bring customers back into service.

To those who waited for their power to be restored and those who responded to the storm, thank you.
