Carol Sue Ponder King Stafford, 78, died Sunday, July 3, 2022 at her residence in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Mrs. Stafford was born July 18, 1943 in Jennings County, Indiana, the daughter of Jewell E. Ponder and M. Jeannette Gipson. She is a graduate of Hauser High School (1961) and Ivy Tech’s LPN program (1977). Carol and James D. King (died 2007) are the parents of Jeffrey D. King (Helen) and Jill D. King Sherman (Dale).
She is the grandmother of Madeline C. Sherman and Kendra Holzhausen and great-grandmother to Allyssia and Madison Christman. She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband James D. King, brother William Ponder and great-granddaughter Allyssia Christman. Mrs. Stafford is survived by husband Michael Stafford, her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter Madison Christman; sisters in law Doris Carter, Jean Jenkins and Marva Ponder; and beloved nieces, nephews, step-brothers and step-sisters.
Mrs. Stafford spent most of her life in Elizabethtown and Columbus, Indiana working as a nurse in a variety of nursing positions including the Columbus Regional Hospital. Upon her marriage to Michael Stafford she relocated to Phoenix, Arizona.
