Elva Jean “Jeanie” Weaver

COLUMBUS

Mrs. Elva Jean “Jeanie” Weaver, 84, of Columbus, went to her heavenly home August 27, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Elva Jean, also known as Jeanie, was born March 7, 1938, to the late Choice Thomas Sr. and Bertha Frances Chinn Thomas in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jeanie worked for Cummins for 25 years, as a team leader on the engine line. She will be remembered for her extreme love for her entire family.

Elva was a devoted member of the Columbus Baptist Church where she was heavily involved in almost everything; she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and especially loved working with the kids. Her green thumb will always be remembered as she loved gardening, but she will also be remembered for her vast decorating ability with Truman in their house, with the many of the arts and crafts they made together.

Jeanie’s legacy and memories will remain close to those that loved her the most to include her son’s Marty (Debbie) Pickens of Lebanon and Tim (Tracy) Pickens of North Vernon, her brother Anthony (Sherry) Thomas; seven grandchildren; Christopher (Elizabeth) Pickens, Isabelle Pickens, Brandon Pickens, Melinda (Nathan) Walsh, Charles Pickens, Lucas Pickens, and Anna (Matt) Carey. Also surviving Jeanie are seven great-grandchildren, Amaylie Walsh, Briella Walsh, Andrea Snelson, Keagan Walsh (Holly Rothrock), Peyton (Jentry) Lange, Thomas Pickens, Charlotte Pickens; and great-great grandchild Saylor Walsh.

Elva was preceded in death by her parents, husband Truman in 2018, her son Mark Pickens; daughter Kathy Jo Pickens; brothers Choice Thomas Jr. and Richard Thomas, and also her sister Mabel St. John.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 between 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm with the funeral service beginning at 6:00 pm at the Columbus Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Kennedy officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made through Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home on behalf of Columbus Baptist Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
