Sheriff honors local fire efforts

Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers and Major Chris Lane attended the Bartholomew County Fire Chiefs meeting at the Hope Fire Department recently and presented a plaque to local fire departments for outstanding contributions to the sheriff’s office, the citizens of Bartholomew County and for their professionalism, integrity and support over the past eight years.

Many areas of the county rely on volunteer fire departments for their fire protection. Myers said BCSO deputies often work alongside our volunteer firefighters. “We appreciate their dedication and their service. BCSO could not provide the services we do during medical runs, traffic accidents, and/or house fires without Bartholomew County volunteer firefighters,” he said.

“As I end my tenure as sheriff, I want to personally thank all of our volunteer firefighters for the sacrifices they make and for protecting us,” Myers said. “We should all feel greatly indebted to them for their willingness to serve and protect.

“They have my most sincere gratitude.”

Myers honored Columbus Fire Department, Hope Volunteer Fire Department, Columbus Township Fire Department, Harrison Township Fire Department, Clifford Fire Department, Elizabethtown Fire Department, Wayne Township Fire Department, Southwest Fire Department, Hartsville Fire Department, German Township Fire Department and Clay Township Fire Department.
