A homicide trial cancelled in July and rescheduled for this week has again been postponed in Bartholomew Circuit Court.
Patrick E. Doyle, 39, is charged with the August 2021 murder of Heather Ann Steuver, 37.
The trial was canceled last July due to pretrial publicity. However, Judge Kelly Benjamin approved selecting a jury from Shelby County and transporting them round-trip to the Bartholomew County Courthouse.
Jury selection was scheduled to begin Monday morning, but a court official said the trial again had to be canceled because a witness was not available to testify this week.
Doyle’s trial is now scheduled for Feb. 13, the court official said.
Steuver’s body was found 18 days after her death in a shallow grave on the property of Nugent Sand and Gravel Co., located off Old Indianapolis Road. Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting ruled the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
