County approves software, service renewals

The Bartholomew County Commissioners on Monday approved funding for a contract extension with the county’s internet provider and renewed licenses for a range of software applications that officials use for cybersecurity, document imaging, among other tasks.

In total, the commissioners approved spending around $51,700 on the licenses and contract extension. Of that, $32,100 is for a one-year contract extension with the county’s primary internet provider Everstream, which official said the county has been using for several years.

The software renewals also included about $11,084 combined for two programs by SHI International that county officials use to back up critical data systems and provide email security.

In addition, the commissioners approved $4,624 to renew a system by CDWG that provides law enforcement and other authorized personnel with two-factor identification to access law enforcement databases, $3,132 for software that Mayes said functions as a “check engine light” by monitoring the health of the county’s “critical assets” such as servers, as well as $7,222 for a document imaging and workflow system that several county departments use.

All of the renewals and extensions were previously budgeted for and fell “within forecasted amounts,” said Scott Mayes, the county’s IT director, during the commissioners meeting.

“(That is) money well spent,” said Bartholomew County Commissioner Tony London during the meeting.
