COLUMBUS
(Clara) Geneva (nee Barker) Wendel died at Silver Oaks Health Campus, in Columbus, Indiana, November 13, 2022. She was born June 16, 1932 to Frank and Emmajean Littiken Barker of Shelby County, having celebrated her 90th birthday this year. She graduated from Columbus High School and married (Paul) Leo Wendel on July 1, 1951. In her later years, together with Leo, they farmed and raised cattle on the Barker family farm in Shelby County.
Geneva and Leo have three adult children, Denis (Toni) Wendel of Elizabethtown, IN, the Rev. David (Susan) Wendel of Jacksonville, FL and Sandra (John) Weber of Brownstown, IN. They have six grandchildren, Paul Wendel, Keli Ankeny, Kyla Wendel, Christopher Wendel, Rebekah Kilpatrick and Eric Weber. They have twelve great-grandchildren: Cyrus, Dante, Devin, Hunter, Carson, Marissa, Seth, Ayla, Asher, Evelyn, Vaughn and Lena.
Geneva was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church, Columbus, Indiana, having served in various volunteer responsibilities. Through the years, she was involved in church choir and Sweet Adeline’s women’s singing group.
Geneva was preceded in death by Leo, in April, 2012.
A Funeral Service will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Myers~Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Basaam Abdallah officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. Saturday to service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.myers-reed.com.
