Donner swimmers host Aaron Fry Invitational

Donner Swim Club athletes celebrate following last weekend’s Aaron Fry Invitational at Columbus North.

Donner Swim Club hosted the Donner Aaron Fry Invitational last weekend at Columbus North High School to honor Aaron Fry, who passed away recently after leading Donner through a transition period between head coaches.

More than 80 Donner swimmers competed against swimmers from Seymour and Franklin Swim Teams. Donner athletes swept the girls high point awards.

Donner Swim Club’s Caroline Crawford won a High Point Award in last weekend’s Aaron Fry Invitational at Columbus North.

Caroline Crawford led all athletes with 170 points, winning the 11-12 girls high point award. She won the 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle and placed second in the 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly and third in the 200 freestyle.

Ella Bringman led the 10-and-under girls with 161 points. She won the 100 IM, 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle, and finished second in the 100 backstroke and 50 butterfly.

Donner Swim Club’s Mridula Muthukumaran won a High Point Award in last weekend’s Aaron Fry Invitational at Columbus North.

Mridula Muthukumaran earned 160 points to win the 13-and-over high point award. She won the 500 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 IM.

Sydney Paulsen won the 8U girls high point award with 130 points. She won the 100 freestyle and 25 breaststroke and took second in the 100 IM and 25 butterfly and third in the 25 backstroke, 25 freestyle and 50 freestyle.

Also in the 8U age group, Charlie Reed finished third in the 25 breaststroke, Parker Boyer placed second in 25 freestyle and Calvin Findley placed third in 25 butterfly. Samuel Foiles placed first in 100 freestyle and 25 breaststroke and third in 25 backstroke, 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle. Charlie Getz earned won the 100 IM. Abhyud Ponnathpur was second in the 25 butterfly and 50 freestyle and fifth in the 25 breaststroke and 50 backstroke.

For the 10U boys, Bryant Babb finished second in the 50 backstroke. Sriram Aarav placed fourth in the 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly. Ritivik Prithiviraj took second in the 100 IM, third in 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 butterfly. Cade Paulsen won the 100 breaststroke and was third in 100 IM and 50 breaststroke and fifth in the 100 freestyle. Cooper Bringam won the 200 IM and 100 butterfly and finished second in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke; second in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke. Lincoln Crawford placed third in 50 butterfly and fourth in the 100 IM.

For the 12U boys, Garrett Perfetto won the 200 breaststroke and placed second in 50 breaststroke, third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 backstroke. Sarthak Kamble placed fifth in the 50 butterfly. Abhay Bhadauria took third in the 50 breaststroke; fourth 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly and fifth in the 50 and 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle. Levi Bense won the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke. Liam Babb was fourth in the 50 backstroke and fifth in 100 freestyle. Anand Neela earned second in the 100 breaststroke.

In the open boys division, Mateo Gamez-Lamadrid finished second in the 1,000 freestyle and 200 backstroke. Jude Abdallah won the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 IM. Brock Smith won the 400 IM and placed second in the 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Harshith Devaguptapu took fourth in the 100 backstroke and 200 breaststroke. Nicolas Bowers was third in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. Aarush Mahato came in second in the 100 backstroke; third in the 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 200 IM and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.

For the 8U girls, Linley Babb won the 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly and placed second in the 50 freestyle and third in 25 freestyle. Arya Dayama finished fourth in the 50 backstroke. Natalie Parsons won the 100 IM and took second in the 25 backstroke and 25 freestyle. Emma Sims was second in the 25 backstroke. Danzel Smith won the 50 backstroke and placed third in he 50 freestyle and fourth in the 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke. Lela Smith finished third in the 50 backstroke.

For the 10U girls, Sanvika Singh finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Luiza Salamao won the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 50 backstroke and placed second in the 50 freestyle. Anna Reed took third in 100 IM, Maggie Novreske was third in 100 backstroke. Elle Fitzsimmons won the 100 backstroke, and finished second in the 100 IM and third in the 50 freestyle. Courtland Reed placed second in the 50 breaststroke, third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle.

For the 12U girls, Rajvi Sapkal placed third in 200 IM. Sanchita Ponnathpur won the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke; and finished second in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM, third in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Bryn Emmitt took fifth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. Nithya Neela was fourth in 100 IM. Maira Marta placed fourth in the 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly. Idhika Shetty finished third in the 50 backstroke.

In the 13-and-over age group, Mattie Handlon finished third in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke. Josephine Franks placed fourth in the 200 IM. Georgia Abdallah took second in the 200 IM. Cora Tregoning won the 200 breaststroke and was second in the 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. Ava Andrews finished second in the 200 freestyle, third in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 backstroke.

SPEED SKATING

Full Throttle opens season

Full Throttle Speed Skating team opened its 2022-23 competition season last weekend in Chicago, attending the Park Ridge Open on Nov. 12 and the Franklin Park Barrel Buster on Nov. 13. Both meets were regional ability meets.

At the Park Ridge open, Christopher Schwab advanced to the B finals at the 222m, 333m and 500m distances and finished seventh for the day. Vivaan Gupta, Wyatt Keifer, and Gabe Marimoto Taqueushi competed in 500m, 777m, and 1000m distances, and all advanced to the B finals, finishing fith, sixth and seventh overall, respectively, in their group.

Rithwik Veeravalli and Meredith Schwab competed at 333m, 500m and 777m distances for their respective groups. Veeravalli advanced to the A final at all distances, finishing first overall for his group and he coming away with the best result of the team in his first meet. Meredith Schwab advanced to A and B finals in her group, finishing third overall.

Luis Marimoto Taqueushi competed at 500m, 777m and 1000m distances for his group and advanced to the B finals for his group and ended up sixth overall. Duree Brown competed in the master’s group at 500m, 1000m, and 1500m, advancing to the A finals and finishing second overall on the day.

Most of the team also skated in the Franklin Park Barrel Buster, with most skaters improving their result from the day before. Gabe Marimoto Taqueushi and Veeravalli competed at 500m, 777m, and 1000m distances. Marimoto Taqueushi advanced for A finals, and Veeravalli advanced to the A and B finals, finishing second and third overall, respectively, for their group.

Gupta and Keifer also competed at 500m, 700m and 1000m distances for their group. Gupta advanced to the A finals, finishing second overall. Keifer advanced to A and B finals, finishing fourth overall for the group. Luis Marimoto Taqueushi competed at 500m, 777m and 1000m distances, advancing for A finals and finishing second overall for his group.

Full Throttle Speed Skating Team practices at the Hamilton Community Center and Ice Arena and is coached by Taylor and Mikey Burdekin of Columbus. The next meet for the team will be on Saturday at the Ohio Invitational in Cleveland Heights.

HOCKEY

Icemen Prep posts shutout

Several Columbus youth hockey teams were in action last weekend.

The Columbus Icemen Prep beat Northside 6-0. Eddie Aranda netted four goals, Nate Balasia and Kennedy Miller each added 1 goal, Drew Weed and Briceon Ernest each had two assists, and Griffin Mudd and Louie Vandergriff each added 1 assist. Ben Blanz was in net.

Columbus Flames 14U A swept Indy Fuel Red 10-0 and 3-0. River Degner netted four goals and two assists; Eddie Aranda recorded two goals and four assists; Sawyer Patterson notched two goals and one assist; Drew Weed had one goal and three assists; Tyler Teague tallied one goal and one assist; Aidan Richardson, Simon Barnes and Will Jamerson all scored one goal and Lance Kitterman, Griffin Mudd and Tyson Tyner all added one assist. Lane Barringer was in net.

Columbus Flames 14U B lost 10-4 and won 5-0 against Owensboro and won 6-1 and tied 0-0 against Cincy swords. Ryan McGhehey netted five goals and three assists; Zane Lynch recorded three goals and two assists; Jonathon Tuttle scored two goals; Preston Bell had 1 goal and 1 assist, Noah Doig, Jack Treesh and Bryson Moore all scored one goal and Cooper Ross, Carter Kareus, Lilly Donica, Linda Wang and Quincy Grider all added one assist. Gabe Marsh was in net.

Columbus Flames 12U AA tied 1-1 and won 7-4 against Northern Kentucky. Max Perez scored three goals, Brooks Larsh notched one goal and two assists, Rowan Correll and Henry Schloemer each recorded one goal and one assist, Logan Barringer and Bentley Hampton each scored one goal, Carter Davis and Ethan Neumann each had two assists and Garrett Uy added one assist. Canyon Long saved 32 of 37 shots for an 86.4 save percentage.

Columbus Flames 12U B swept Northern Kentucky 3-0 and 3-1. Henry Jamerson scored two goals; Nolan Sparkman netted one goal and two assists; Hudson Maynard had one goal and one assist; Hallie Mudd and Hudson Beckom each scored one goal and Luke Getchell, Jonah Broderick and Colby Payne all added one assist. Knox Coen was in net.

Columbus Flames 10U AA swept Troy Bruins 4-0 and 6-1 and won 3-0 and tied 1-1 against Miami. Dalton Larsh scored eight goals, Nolan Bush netted three goals and three assists, Ollie Jamerson recorded one goal and two assists, Avery Orgass and Thomas Degner each scored one goal, Cayden Long notched three assists, Daniel Wallace had 2 assists and Carson Sims and Chance Mathis each added one assist. Cayden Long was in net three games, saving 40 of 41 shots for a 97.5 % save percentage; and Carson Sims was in net one game, saving 13 of 14 shots for a 92.9 % save percentage.

BROOMBALL

Monsters remain unbeaten

Monsters of Rock edged CCA 3-2 to run its record to 3-0 in the Columbus Broomball League. Ben Eckhart scored two goals, and Kyle Roshak added one for Monsters. Ricky Hooten had both goals for CCA (2-1).

Hansons (2-1) beat Toyota Tsunamis 7-1 behind two goals from Matt Psota and one each from Matt Street, Rahul Bhartwaj, Erik Spilling, Keith Henry and John Lane. Clayton McNealy scored for Tsunamis (0-3).

Darren Eckerly scored four goals, and Ellie Lutz added one to lead Our Name Is Earl (2-1) to a 5-2 win against Jennings County BC. Kyle Hunterman and Darien Castetter had the goals for Jennings (0-3).

BASKETBALL

Panthers top Pirates

The Jennings County seventh-grade boys White team improved to 3-1 with a 44-31 win against Greensburg on Thursday.

Cash Summers led the Panthers with 16 points. Koltin Watts added 10.
